This document outlines an alternative approach when a client is hesitant or unwilling to share Manager access to Google Ads.
Clients may be reluctant to grant manager access due to concerns around security, data privacy, and maintaining control over their campaigns and billing. In some cases, past experiences or limited understanding of permission levels can also contribute to this hesitation.
Limitation
For Commversion’s direct Google Ads integration to function, Manager access is required. Without this level of access, the integration cannot be enabled.
Workaround Solution: GA4 Integration
The workaround is for clients to opt-in for a GA4 integration with Commversion and then import events into Google Ads
This approach allows conversion tracking without granting direct access to Google Ads.
How It Works (Simple Flow)
- Events are tracked in GA4
- You mark specific events as “Conversions” in GA4
- Link GA4 with Google Ads
- Import those conversions into Google Ads
Helpful Resource
Here is a Google Document that references the steps that could be helpful for this set up- https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9379420#zippy=%2Cin-this-article
Important Notes:
- Only conversion events can be imported
→ Standard events will not appear unless they are marked as conversions - Data sync delay
→ There is typically a lag of 24–48 hours for data to reflect in Google Ads
Conclusion
If a client is running high-budget campaigns, requires real-time bidding optimization, or needs highly accurate attribution, a direct Google Ads integration is strongly recommended.
However, if these are not critical requirements, the GA4-based setup serves as an effective and reliable workaround.
